Greener by Default (c3)
Organization Description
Greener by Default envisions a world in which plant-based foods are the default across all foodservice, shifting demand to create a sustainable food system that allows communities and ecosystems to thrive. We work towards this goal by partnering with foodservice and institutional leaders to make plant-based nudges effective, acceptable, and feasible for diners and operators.
2026 Programs
1) Increase institutional protein shifts across diverse geographies and industries, shifting 8 million pounds of protein from animal-based to plant-based. 2) Conduct novel research that validates best practices, identifies new strategies to implement, and/or provides evidence of the value of implementing strategies from an institutional perspective, submitting 2 studies for pre-print to benefit both GBD and our foodservice partners as well as the larger community of practice. 3) Reduce the amount of time spent per client while ensuring they receive the support and resources necessary to be successful, with 75% of clients using new automated tools.
2025 Programs
1) Establish GBD as a respected institutional plant-forward policy leader by reaching 2,500 stakeholders via conferences and webinars; quotes/references in 15 relevant media articles. 2) Establish plant-based nudges as best practice across key industries by reducing 150,000kg of animal protein, securing 6 pilots at top prestige institutions, and permanently implementing strategies at 75% of pilot sites. 3) Develop a model that is easily scalable by expanding strategies to a secondary foodservice environment 75% of the time, increasing pilots launched relative to staff time spent by 33%, and partnering with 9 foodservice management company subsidiaries to implement strategies across multiple accounts.
