Organization Description
Our work is that which reframes Black men’s political disengagement not as apathy or a failure of rational choice, but as a response to accumulated trauma, exclusion, economic insecurity, and institutional betrayal. BMVPEF argues that traditional resource-based organizing cannot fully explain—or reverse—declining participation. The work calls for a trauma-informed approach grounded in listening, trust, dignity, healing, and sustained relationships. Our 2026 strategy seeks to reconnect Black men whom politics has left behind, transform their pain into collective power, and build a model of civic engagement that recognizes their voices, leadership, and humanity.
2026 Programs
BMVP’s 2026 plan will engage politically disconnected Black men through trusted messengers, culturally relevant spaces, and sustained, relationship-based outreach. The strategy includes five Brothas Be Voting listening sessions, 40 nightclub ambassador events, 11 NoCap activations, nearly 3.9 million text messages, and three rounds of canvassing at 269,375 households across 153 counties in five states. Together, these programs will reach Black men where they live, gather, and communicate—building trust, countering misinformation, shaping messages around their lived experiences, and converting exclusion into sustained civic participation and voting power.
2025 Programs
In 2025, BMVP strengthened its model for reaching Black men whom most civic engagement institutions routinely overlook. Through Brothas Be Voting conversations, trusted nightclub ambassadors, NoCap convenings, culturally competent canvassing, and direct texting, we created spaces where Black men could speak honestly, receive reliable information, and engage without judgment. Our achievements cannot be measured solely by election outcomes. Building trust with a demographic repeatedly disappointed by institutions is itself a critical victory and a high-priority. Every new relationship, honest conversation, returning participant, and trusted messenger expanded the foundation for sustained civic participation, leadership, and long-term electoral power.
