Youth Civic Engagement and Climate Action Grants
Background
Clean and Prosperous America (CaPA) envisions national climate legislation that advances economic prosperity for all, green jobs, and climate action. In 2020, we supported efforts to mobilize young people, especially voters from underrepresented or under-resourced communities and rural areas, to vote for leaders who prioritize climate action. Our partners used a wide range of innovative strategies to educate, register, and turn out the youth vote. Youth turnout yielded decisive results in the 2020 general and presidential elections, as well as the 2021 Georgia Senate runoff elections.
2021 Funding and Support
We are not currently accepting grant proposals; this page will be updated when we launch our next round of grantmaking. For reference, our application criteria and form are below. Our Criteria
- Programs must engage people under the age of 40, either as a primary focus or as part of an intergenerational program that includes community elders or other older voices and leadership.
- Preference will be given to programs that reach out to young people outside large cities, in rural and/or suburban areas.
- Preference will be given to programs that are led by and focus on engaging voters and activists in communities that have traditionally been underrepresented or under-resourced.
- Programs must focus on one or both of the following:
- Engage and empower young people to participate in civic life, politics, and/or government (e.g. ongoing voter registration activities).
- Recruit and train young people to engage with their elected officials and advocate for climate and environmental justice at the national, state, and/or local level.
- Programs must be flexible enough to succeed whether or not in-person organizing is possible due to COVID-19.
- Preference will be given to programs that incorporate relational organizing tactics, i.e. volunteers and supporters reaching out directly to their friends and family.
- Organizations with an annual budget of over $2 million are eligible to apply for grant funding to support youth civic engagement work, but not legislative engagement work.
- Programs must complete a grant report at the end of their grant-funded project – see CaPA’s grant report guidelines.
NOTE: We are interested in learning about programs that meet the criteria listed above, but are always open to new and innovative ideas. Organizations do not need to meet all of the criteria listed in order to apply.
The RFP will be updated if grantmaking ends. 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC organizations are welcome to apply. Please indicate the legal status of your organization in the proposal.
