MOVE (Mobilize, Organize, Vote, Empower) Texas is a grassroots, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to building the power of young people in underrepresented communities through civic engagement, leadership development, and issue advocacy. In a political system that is not designed for all people, we make it easy and accessible to participate in democracy. We know that there is incredible potential in harnessing the power of young people at the local level through organizing that allows them to form a community and find a political home, and by providing civic education to help young people understand how the system works, we connect them with their power and voice to influence the decisions and processes that impact their lives. We primarily serve prospective first-time voters on college campuses with a focus on BIPOC and LGBTQ communities, and each branch of our work forms our theory of change in which we build a base by moving young people up our ladder of engagement. Throughout our 10-year history, we have come to embrace our identity to be centered on revolutionizing voter engagement and access (civic engagement), being at the forefront of policy issues affecting young people (issue advocacy), and building the skills and capacity of young people to take action (leadership development). Together, we are building a Texas that believes in young people and invests in their leadership as we envision a future in which they have the tools and infrastructure to thrive and be actively involved in an equitable democracy.
