Centering marginalized communities and communities of color in our organizing and advocacy work, and encouraging and empowering them to be more civically engaged has always been a part of our major strategies. We move our strategies forward through the model of integrated voter engagement: deep local organizing, broad-scale state level advocacy, year-long civic engagement programs integrated with local organizing campaigns, strategic communications and digital organizing, and multiple leadership pipelines through which we are able to move people from the first interaction to members, activists, and leaders. Our model moves people not just into “habitual” voters or activists, but conscious, strategic

Our goals include building a grassroots movement by training resident leaders, especially youth; expanding an engaged base of voters and activists; and forming coalitions with diverse community stakeholders. As a fiscal project of OneOC, OCEJ’s 2025 programs will build off of the momentum of our past year’s accomplishments to expand our work across the region and create new coalitions to advance environmental justice in Orange County. Our priorities for this year include: expanding access to soil, water, and air testing in residential communities across Orange County; building support networks so communities can collectively respond to natural disasters and other emergencies; and finally, building leadership among Orange County low-income youth of color through our Defending the Sacred internship and summer organizing academy.

The Sierra Club Georgia Chapter - Independent Committee empowers Georgia voters to advance climate and conservation policies at the state and local level by electing environmental champions to office. Our program mobilizes, persuades and turns out Georgia voters and educates them on key climate issues on the ballot. Our field tactics include phonebanking, textbanking, letter writing, tabling and door-to-door canvassing. Our goal is to not only mobilize voters here in Georgia but also build a movement of Georgians who vote for the environment at the ballot box.
2024 presents unique opportunities for environmental electoral victories in Georgia — both at the state and local level. In a rare opportunity, the first race that will be listed on the ballot this year is the statewide Public Service Commission (PSC) election. The PSC regulates utilities, sets power rates and determines our state’s energy mix. Our program will target local voters in Metro Atlanta communities where municipal races are taking place. Our plan is to launch a 3 week early vote program targeting these voters via phonebanking, mail and digital.
We will focus our GOTV efforts on Cobb and Gwinnett counties - both are holding referendums on transportation expansion. Our goal is to ensure that BIPOC youth voters who are turning out in key state house districts also vote YES on each ballot question.
