Organization Description
Alaska Public Interest Research Group (AKPIRG) is a nonprofit founded in 1974 that is committed to connecting Alaskans to reliable information about public interest issues. Unlike most PIRGs, AKPIRG has no ties to university or student PIRG organizations, or to the national PIRG system. Designed to represent the interests of consumers, AKPIRG provides a vehicle for promoting the concerns of under-represented Alaskans into the mainstream of public policy making. Blue Future is a youth-led organization that recruits, trains and deploys youth to progressive campaigns. We engage and train youth from frontline communities to participate in broad and diverse advocacy coalitions. Through our youth leadership development programs, we will support youth to plan and execute a ballot campaign that advocates for granting the state Auditor the ability to audit the legislature, increasing transparency and accountability ahead of Election Day 2024. Simultaneously, we will train Youth Leaders on their local representatives, preparing them to engage and educate local residents about down-ballot candidates. Youth Leaders will also conduct voter outreach through tabling during the week of October 28, 2024, to encourage voter turnout.
