Organization Description
Center for Common Ground is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to strengthening civic participation and expanding access to accurate information in rural and historically underserved communities. The organization works to ensure residents have the knowledge and tools needed to engage in public decision making that affects their daily lives, including elections, infrastructure, and community resources. Through direct outreach, civic education, and partnerships with local organizations, Center for Common Ground connects communities with reliable information and opportunities for engagement. Its work focuses particularly on rural regions and communities served by electric cooperatives across the southeastern United States.
2026 Programs
Center for Common Ground’s 2026 programs focus on civic education, public participation, and expanding access to accurate information in rural communities across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Core programming includes large scale phonebanks, targeted mail outreach, and educational briefings that help residents understand public policies affecting elections, infrastructure, energy investments, and community resources. In 2026, CFCG will also expand rural climate and energy education focused on federal clean energy investments such as New ERA and PACE, helping cooperative member owners and local leaders understand implementation, infrastructure impacts, and opportunities for community engagement in energy transition decisions.
2025 Programs
Center for Common Ground’s 2025 programs focused on civic education and expanding access to accurate information for rural communities across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Core work included large scale phonebanks, targeted mail outreach, and educational briefings designed to help residents understand elections, public policy, and community infrastructure decisions. The organization also launched expanded rural climate and energy education explaining federal clean energy investments such as New ERA and PACE, helping electric cooperative member owners and local leaders understand how these programs affect utility costs, infrastructure modernization, and long term community stability.
2024 Programs
Our campaign aims to engage super voters, registered voters, and especially irregular or low propensity voters.
Mission
Center for Common Ground works to educate and empower voters of color in voter suppression states. We work in voter suppression states where more than 20% of voters are voters of color – Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. Our work includes community surveys to help communities find their voice, community canvassing, candidate forums, making phone calls and teaching advocacy. Collaborating with local partners, we strive to mobilize ALL voters of color, both those who consistently participate in elections and those who have yet to exercise their right to vote.
